The Deers

I thought it would be nice to have a little adventure in the countryside to see what nature I could snap!

I really wanted to capture some photography of Deers in their habitat, so made this my mission for the day! I wondered around Wollaton Hall in Nottingham, as I knew this was home to many Deers but it seemed they were nowhere to be seen on the park.

But they where soon spotted in the golf course near the park, this raised a bit of a quest for me as I couldn't shoot in the golf course. So I had to try and capture my photos from the sidelines behind the fence and just hope a Deer would wonder insight, after much searching and waiting around I finally found a beautiful young buck with many Doe!

They are such amazing creatures, after I got the photos, I couldn't help just standing and watching them graze.

While wondering the park looking for deer, I thought id visit the miniature world with my macro lens, I found a few water droplets on a blade of grass which I thought looked interesting, I love photographing with a macro lens it shows the tiny details of beauty usually unseen by the human eye!

Hero Street Portraits

I've recently had a bit of time to carry on with my Hero Street Portraits where I go out into the city and take portraits of strangers and ask them what super power they would chose if they could have one!

Heres a few that I've taken recently, and their amazing responses...

His power would be "to put the world to rights, stop the violence" he then asked me "do you know where heaven is? And then he said "Heaven is on earth if people will make it"

"to take away Fear so people aren't scared of anything"

I'm going to try my best to fit these portraits in as often as can, its so much fun!

The Gregory Crewdson Exhibition

I recently visited London to see the Gregory Crewdson Exhibition as he's one of my favourite photographers!

He creates such magical worlds and images, to be able to see his work at the photographers Gallery as massive prints up on the wall was mind-blowing, he's such a talented photographer!

These are three of my favourite prints from the exhibition!

I love the colours in this image and the way the light fills the shed, there is so much detail in the print which all helps create the world and story behind the image.

This image is just so beautiful and eye catching the colours, the way the trees frame the guy on his ski's, the mysteriousness of the world is so intriguing.

The Short Film Dead Quiet

Well the short film Dead quiet was a lot of fun to work on, I did the behind the scene stills for the full five days of the shoot, it was a pleasure to work with so many talented creatives working together to make an amazing film.

The film is a short thriller horror set in a world gone silent!

A BTS of me getting a production still from inside the Caravan, cant wait to be able to share the stills from this shoot! (yes I needed a stool to stand on as usual)

A few of the shots can be seen on the Unit stills section of the site but at the moment I'm unable to share a lot of them till I have the all clear from production, as we don't want to give to much of the film away, but as soon I can release them they will be up on the site!

For now here's a photo from the end of the shoot of Director Alex Withers with Writer Dan MCGrath.

Barcelona Trip

I recently had a much needed trip away to Barcelona with my partner Karl Poyzer, it was great to get away for a few days and enjoy the sun. While away we spent a lot of time exploring the streets of the city, which have there own hidden beauty!

Beautiful sites if you look up once in a while!

We had a Picasso theme day and visited the museum which held some of his original work it was interesting to see how his work changed from the very realised portraits to the abstract work he is known for today to follow the theme of exploring Picassos work we went to El quatre gats a beautiful little bar where Picasso and other famous artists used to use as their drinking hole, this bar was like walking into the past with the décor and pianist playing away.

Galway Film Fleadh

I have been away on my travels to Ireland to the Galway Film Fleadh, where Wash Club a film I worked on as a unit stills photographer was screened with the creative England shorts!

It was great to see one of my Unit stills used in the Film Fleadh Brochure, And to see a great response to the film!

It was a lot of fun, I travelled with a few friends and we watched a lot of great films including Kedi a documentary about Cats in Istanbul, and Christopher Nolan's new film Dunkirk. We went to some wonderful restaurants and bars and met lots of lovely new people.

Keep an eye out for the next blog about my trip to Barcelona!

Exhibited work

Hello

Its been quiet on the blog front of the website recently but I’ve been working away behind the scenes. My most recent piece of work was a personal project, which I created to be exhibited in an exhibition!

This Piece of work explored the theme of Grief and the need for hope, It was created in an expansive forest, with cinematic lighting, it’s very exciting to create a new world through photography. I wanted the image to have a sci-fi element to it, with a sense of loneliness and darkness but with a glimmer of hope!

The work was exhibited at the Nottingham photo parlour and had its own Wall to fit the two A1 framed prints, its such a great feeling to have your work displayed for everyone to see and the response and support was amazing!

Photo taken on an Iphone 6 so not great quality!

I want to say a big thank you to Dan McGrath for being a n excellent model :).

These images are also  displayed on the home page so please take a look!

Fashion Photography

I have recently been working with the amazing make up artist and creative director: Madz Abbasi, find her on instagram at  @lylikecake. We have been creating two fashion shoots with two models: Phoebe Townsend and Naomi.

For the first Fashion shoot we shot in two locations in Nottingham city centre, an independent clothing shop called COW, and a room in Rough trade which had an amazing sculpture within it. Madz began by creating hair, make up and outfits for Naomi, then we set off to our locations to do our photography shoots. We had the lovely Amy Sykes as a photography assistant on this shoot helping bounce light with reflectors and snapping some BTS shots. Both locations gave us a lot to work with to create some interesting shots and we really enjoyed ourselfs creating them. So thank you to COW and Rough Trade!

Rough trade had a beautiful sculpture in it, which we incorporated into our shots as Naomi did some beautiful ballet poses. Photo Credit: Amy Sykes

Fashion shoot two arrived and we had two locations one was  an abandoned car park and one was a multi-storey car park, Today the weather was on our side, but time was not! We had three hours to shoot and create two looks the pressure was on. So again Madz created the make up, hair and outfit for Phoebe, and we were off to shoot in the abandoned car park it had some beautiful buildings  and green shrubbery in the background, which worked well with our fashion theme.

We got our shots and moved onto the next look, and headed off to the multi-storey car park where we had a lot of fun dancing away on the top floor to capture the shots!

Both shoots were so much fun and it was great to collaborate with so many creative people.

Street Portraits

I decided I was going to create a series of street portraits approaching strangers in the streets whom I thought would be interesting to photograph.  This project is so much fun, I decided to do it with a theme to gain more conversation with the subjects and to find out a little about these strangers, my theme is

“If you could have a superpower what would it be?”

Some of the responses were so interesting not everyone wanted to fly or have x-ray vision, which are cool powers don’t get me wrong, but a lot of people would of used their powers for good to make the world a better place for everyone!

My favourite response was from this lovely Gentleman:

whom responded with “I would share the power to make us all Equal in the world, So there would be no war, no fighting for what others have, there would be peace and everyone would be happy.”

These responses inspired me to shoot more street portraits and make this an on going project to find a little good in the world!
